No objection to general concept design for two-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 17 November 2011. Recommend development of rear facade and for options for configuration of storefront. File new submission of design development drawings with concept application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that the awning, signs, light fixtures, rear portal and gate, fence and alterations to the rear were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to storefront, sign scheme composed of lettering reading Little Viet Garden back-lit and pin-mounted to cornice as shown in Alternate Option on supplemental drawings dates 1 December 2011 which includes fabric awnings within the openings and sconce down lights. No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to rear, including low metal fence and gate as shown in supplemental drawings dated 22 November 2011. Recommend down-light fixtures at rear terrace and a solid metal guard at base of fence. Single awning covering architectural features on facade, sign scheme, light fixtures with exposed conduits, neon signs, and new features constructed of wood at the rear were not approved and must be removed as part of the scope of this design. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions and cut-sheets, with permit application no later than the deadline of 12 January 2012 for review by the Commission.

No objection to general concept for new storefront with wood sign band and retained existing cornice, though removal of terra cotta tiles is acceptable. Awnings to not have lettering on slope. New 2/2 windows at second story to fit original masonry opening. File a new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed replacement of windows. Existing single-glazed wood windows, which match single glazed windows on adjacent buildings on row, must be repaired. No objection to replacement of vinyl windows at basement level with wood single glazed windows to match detailing of remaining windows. Recommend use of storm windows.

No objection to issuance of permit for reintroduction of front stair and berm as per supplemental drawings dated 8 December 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for demolition of historic rear ell per drawings dated 20 October 2011 contingent on new front stoop and berm at front yard reintroduced as approved under case OG 12-016.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement wood windows PROVIDED they are painted which is a compatible finish for the historic district. The proposed transparent finish was not approved and was crossed out from the permit drawings. New windows will match detailing of existing windows. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed blade sign per drawings 16 November 2011. Also recommend removal of ® symbol in existing sign which was not depicted as part of sign scheme proposed under OG 10-181, is not appropriate to the historic district and was not approved.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to shop window as shown on option 6D on supplemental drawings dated 1 December 2011 PROVIDED pair of full-height casement windows are used, transom is deleted and awning is lowered and installed within window opening. No objection to the concept of a projecting sign reading 'Macaron Bee' on this location. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions, cut-sheets, and woven fabric sample for awning, with permit application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that roof structure on shed was removed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed reconstruction of roof to match original configuration, re-using salvaged slate shingles and copper gutter as noted on supplemental drawings dated 18 November 2011. Replacement shingles and gutter, where needed, must match original materials and be located on garden side. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, replacement front door, reconstruction of entry stairs and rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 8 December 2011 which indicate rooftop mechanical equipment screened with painted metal louvers, down lights, and retention of the exposed brick at rear ell. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings for sign scheme with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to first floor window for pair of Marvin single-glazed all-wood windows with 6/6 true-divided-lites with 7/8" muntins to match detailing of existing windows on second floor, and for replacement of rear window to match detailing of existing window. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to unit 111-113, including replacement of windows, installation of Nana wall systems, and retractable woven fabric awnings as shown in supplemental drawings dated 8 December 2011. Recommend the woven fabric on awning be a single color, either dark green or beige to match color of brick on building. Provide fabric sample of awning prior to ordering materials. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for replacement of roof top public safety antennas with smaller antennas, and for new antenna on roof top as shown on supplemental drawings dated 21November 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed woven fabric awnings mounted to the shop window frames within the openings and for sign composed of 6-inch-high lettering reading 'Giotto Niccolo' applied to the glass as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 November 2011. Awnings on second floor windows are not compatible to the character of the historic building, were not approved and were crossed out from the permit drawings. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to garage door as shown on option 2 of supplemental drawings dated 18 November 2011 which includes carriage house doors within garage door opening. Recommend closing of curb-cut is made part of the scope of the work. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions and cut-sheets for doors and down-light fixtures, with permit application for review by the Commission. Note is made that the Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Georgetown holds an easement on this property.

No objection to concept design for raised roof and alternative 1 new rear elevation as per supplemental drawings received 17 November 2011. File a new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for window and door alterations at rear of residence and garage as per drawings dated 10 November 2011. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

Recommend AGAINST concept design for replacement of windows and for projecting hood over pair of entry doors which are not compatible with the row of historic buildings. No objection to the concept design of the reconstruction of the brick stairs PROVIDED row lock rather than the proposed bull nose detail is used. File new submission of working drawings including details and dimensions, with permit application for reconstruction of stairs for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for new four-car brick garage with slate hipped-roof as shown in drawings dated 17 November 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed revisions to awnings and sign scheme to include lettering no taller than 9 3/4 inches high reading 'MedStar Georgetown University Hospital' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 November 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 November 2011. Replacement of historic 1944 sign composed of pin-mounted letters was deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to general concept for new side door provided that masonry opening of existing front door is maintained. Ganged basement windows at front are not approved. File a new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 14 November indicate that proposed partial demolition and reconstruction of brick garden wall to match existing will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board. Any revisions to the footprint, massing, and scope of the project as proposed in the drawings dated 10 November 2011 must be re-submitted to the Commission to reconfirm no visibility from public thoroughfare.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed window and door alterations as shown in drawings dated 17 November 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for new rear wall at south elevation and window alterations at east elevation per supplemental drawings dated 8 December 2011. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of fiberglass windows on front and side facades with wood window sashes to match details, dimensions and profile of original wood windows as per mock-up of a sample window sash installation. Side windows should be 2/2 wood windows with 1 3/4 inch true-divided-lite muntins, sized to fit masonry opening. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Submission materials indicate proposed fence will replace pre-existing one damaged by fire which previously was determined to be not visible from public thoroughfare. See case OG 10-102. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.
