No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to existing parking pad off rear alley, including replacement of concrete with brick pavers, facing retaining wall in brick, new brick stairs to new terrace and repair to masonry wall, which are an improvement over existing condition. Recommend introduction of a landscape bed along the side of the parking pad. File new submission of detailed drawings and product information with a permit application for review by the Commission. Proposed alterations to rear, rear addition, terrace and trellis were reviewed under separate permit application (see case OG 11-041).

No objection to general concept design for proposed two-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 May 2011. Recommend lowering the eaves and the head of the second floor windows and pulling in the hyphens as much as possible, and repair of historic porch as part of the project. File new submission of working drawings, including details and dimensions, for review by the Commission.

No objection to general concept design development for proposed alterations. Recommend minimize number of window wells, use of half-screens on windows, and design of terraces and re-grading to protect and retain existing trees. Request mock-up of skylight for review. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 2-story addition at front of residence and replacement windows as shown in drawings dated 26 April 2011. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to rear, including removal of second floor deck, alterations to first floor deck and new brick garden wall. No objection to proposed replacement of vinyl windows no front facade with Pella Architect Series all-wood insulated windows with 7/8-inch SDL muntins as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 April 2011 PROVIDED half-screens and historic sill to match original window detail are used. No objection to proposed light fixture as shown in supplemental information dated 9 May 2011. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed recovering of existing awning frame with Sunbrella woven fabric and for new lettering on 12-inch valance reading 'Ice Berry' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 April 2011. Awning frame must be removed after use by this business is terminated. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to the general concept for the replacement of 1/1 aluminum windows installed in 1970 with a new aluminum window to match 2/2 configuration of original wood windows with a horizontal muntin. New aluminum brickmould to match profile of original wood brickmould still in place. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings and cut-sheets for the various window and door types in the building with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement Pella Architect Series 6/6 all-wood windows at rear ell as shown in supplemental drawings dated 17 May 2011 which indicate window inserts and retention of existing frames with 7/8 inch all-wood ILT muntins and half screens. All eight windows will match. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement windows throughout Nevills Hall with aluminum single-hung windows that match 1/1 configuration of original windows and match the profile and details of the windows installed in adjacent building. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed revised design for sign scheme, including two single Sunbrella woven fabric awnings on M St storefronts with single logo on valance, and for pin-mounted back-lit 12-inch-high letters with shiny brass finish reading 'Brooks Brothers' on M St facade ONLY as shown in supplemental drawings dated 25 April 2011. Sign on 31st St must be sized to not exceed the width of the shop window opening. Illumination of 31st St sign is not appropriate, was not approved and was crossed out off the drawings. Existing light sconces will be removed as part of this project. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 6'-tall replacement wood fence, 2'-tall retaining wall, security door, and lights as shown in drawings dated 19 April 2011. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme including lettering painted to fascia of bay window reading 'Heiner Contemporary' and pole mounted sign with logo as shown in red-lined supplemental drawings dated 13 May 2011 which indicate black pole to match others on this block. Internally-illuminated box was deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that the roof replacement was completed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing standing seam metal roof, which replaced asphalt shingles roof, PROVIDED roof vents and exhausts are painted to match color of metal roof. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed one-story rear addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 May 2011 which indicate wood shutters on side bay of addition and alterations to flashing to limit visibility. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed removal of aluminum siding on front facades of historic buildings. Existing original wood siding will be evaluated, once exposed, for repair or replacement if needed, which must be kept to a minimum. File separate submission if findings reveal that most of the original siding is damaged-beyond-repair and needs full replacement for review by the Commission. File a separate submission for replacement of door surround and window casing with historically appropriate accurate design to match details of original for review by the Commission. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations including: metal canopy over new entrance doors; new shop window; rooftop mechanical equipment with screen; replacement of casement window with new wood window to match existing, which will be repaired; paving of front yard; and stone beacon feature as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 May 2011. Applicant agreed to a site visit by the Old Georgetown Board to determine illumination of stone beacon. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed reconstruction of roof and alterations for new concrete lintels above second floor windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 April 2011 which indicate new roof will match details and pitch of existing roof. This 1980 house does not face onto a street, is located within a private courtyard and is separated from the alley by garage structures. New brick and mortar joints to match dimensions, texture and color of existing. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed iron fence and gates as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 April 2011 which indicate 4'-10 5/8' high fence and gates, and mechanism for remote operation. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 18 May 2011 indicate that proposed alterations to rear will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

Submitted supplemental drawings and a site visit of 18 May 2011 indicate that the proposed alterations to the masonry openings on side wall above garage structure will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation review Board. However, the Commission notes the existing exposed electrical conduits which are not appropriate to the historic character of the house and the district and must be removed as part of this project.
