Kennedy Half Dollar, Bicentennial issue

Kennedy Half Dollar, Bicentennial issue

An example of mid-20th century coin design is the John F. Kennedy half dollar coin. Originally sculpted in 1964, the portrait of the president by U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver Gilroy Roberts is presented in a classic profile. For the 1976 Bicentennial issue, an image of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, was used to replace the presidential seal of the original design.
