Reflecting a concern for more diversity in American coins, the 1979 dollar coin honoring women’s rights advocate Susan B. Anthony was designed by U.S Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro. The coin, with its distinctive eleven-sided polygonal edge, features a profile of Anthony on the obverse and a reverse with a scene commemorating the American lunar landing in 1969.
