Consent Calendar: CFA Meeting — 19 September 2019

No objection to the final design for the installation of a temporary universal access ramp on the southwest side of the Memorial Amphitheater, as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. It is understood that this temporary ramp will stay in place until a design for a permanent access ramp is developed. Refer to the Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the concept design for a new combined heliport control tower and fire day station building on the north Mall Terrace side of the Pentagon. Recommend color option B for the framing of the windows and doors, and for the apparatus doors, as shown in materials received and dated 14 August 2019. Refer to the Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final plans for modifications to the East Building of the National Gallery of Art that include: refurbishment of the skylights; installation of new accessible doors and egress doors at the existing public entrances; installation of eight poles with security cameras; and installation of exhaust vents for a new gas line to the museum's central heating plant, as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. No objection to the temporary installation of a public artwork titled The Winter Arc, by architect Todd Ray, as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. The artwork will be on public view from February to May 2020. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final plans for the installation of three building identification signs at the Harry S. Truman Building (Department of State Headquarters), as shown in materials received and dated 31 July 2019. The proposed new signs conform to the standard design for building identification signs in the GSA/National Capital Region First Impressions Sign Program, approved in November 2010 (see case number: CFA 18/NOV/10-5). No objection to the proposed final plans for the installation of retractable and fixed bollards, a replacement guard booth, and landscape improvements at the 19th Street garage entrance to the Theodore Roosevelt Building (Office of Personnel Management) as shown in materials received and dated 31 July 2019. The new bollards will replace the existing lift-plate wedge barrier in the driveway entrance to the building's parking garage. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final plans for the installation of five interpretive wayside signs on the St. Elizabeths West Campus, located at 2700 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE, as shown in materials received and dated 3 September 2019. This is the first group of wayside sign installations that will be part of a larger interpretive sign program for the West Campus to fulfill a mitigation measure in the 2008 Programmatic Agreement for the redevelopment of the campus as the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. No objection to the final plans for the installation of concrete formliner cladding of simulated stacked stone on the I-295 highway-facing retaining walls of the Shepherd Parkway access road to the St. Elizabeths West Campus, as shown in materials received and dated 3 September 2019. The new facing material will match as closely as possible the existing stacked stone facing found on retaining walls elsewhere on the campus. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final plans for a retail tenant sign for "Book Arts," as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. Sign conforms to previously approved tenant sign program (see case number CFA 15/FEB/18-o). Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final design for improvements to Walter Pierce Park, as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. No objection to the final design for the installation of a replacement access ramp at the main entrance to the Browne Education Campus, as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final design for the installation of a new universal access ramp to the sports field at Roosevelt High School, as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the proposed concept design for new building identification and wayfinding signs on the north and south facades of Eastern Market, as shown in materials received and dated 5 September 2019. Recommend option 3 for the sign over the door and two banners flanking the main entry on the east side of the building, as shown in supplemental materials received and dated 16 September 2019. No objection to issuance of a revised permit for repairs to existing chimneys and reconstruction of upper portions of the brick site walls to a modified height of 4'-2" utilizing brick salvaged from the previously demolished wall, per supplemental drawings received 16 August 2019, PROVIDED any new brick required matches the existing in size, color, and texture and a mortar mock-up for Old Georgetown Board review is completed prior to construction using the historic mortar analysis as a basis for mortar composition and color. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.
