Consent Calendar: CFA Meeting — 17 June 2021

No objection to the final design for a memorial marker to honor the service and sacrifice of the crew of the Apollo 1 Mission who lost their lives on 27 January 1967, as shown in materials received and dated 3 June 2021. Recommend moving the word "The" from the second line to the end of first line of text on the face of the monument. The monument will be located in Section 3 to the west of the intersection of Lawton and Miles Avenues, near the graves of Roger B. Chaffee and Virgil I. (Gus) Grissom. Refer to the Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final design for the replacement of the existing lighting fixtures at the United States Air Force Memorial, as shown in materials received and dated 28 May 2021. Refer to the Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final design for the renovation of the former McNair Club (Building 60) at Fort McNair from dining/community to classroom use in support of the Inter-American Defense College, as shown in materials received and dated 1 June 2021. Project includes the renovation of the interior and the exterior of the building; rehabilitation of the masonry, roof, fenestration, and site elements; and the installation of a new code-compliant fire stair in the location of the existing egress stair. No objection to the proposed designs for the installation of fixed exterior stairways between the existing escalators in both public entrances to the Judiciary Square Metro Station, as shown in materials received and dated 26 May 2021. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the final design of the exterior building identification signs and artwork identification signs for the new Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority Headquarters building, as shown in materials received and dated 3 June 2021. The proposed signs conform with the approved design for the new headquarters building (see case number CFA 20/JUN/19-2). This submission does not include the retail tenant signs, which will require a separate submission.

No objection to the final design for the installation of interpretive sign panels along the southwestern edge of the west plaza of the new Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, and at the north and south entrances to the pedestrian walkway that traverses the site, as shown in materials received and dated 3 June 2021; recommend revision of the interpretive text on the signs, particularly Panel 7, to acknowledge both negative as well as positive impacts of urban renewal policies in the evolution of the Shaw neighborhood. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the concept design for the installation of a public art work, titled Range the Realms Above by artist Eric Peltzer, on the west plaza of the new Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, as shown in materials received and dated 3 June 2021. Installation of a public art work conforms with the approved site design for the new Benjamin Banneker Academic High School (see case number CFA 16/JAN/20-4). No objection to the final design for a replacement building for the Joy Evans Therapeutic Recreation Center, as shown in materials received and dated 3 June 2021. The final design conforms with the previous recommendations of the Commission. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to the revised final plans for the installation of an array of 103 photoelectric solar panels on the roofs of four buildings on the campus of the Seed Public Charter School, as shown in materials received and dated 3 June 2021. This submission is a revision to a previous submission that proposed 112 solar modules.

No objection to the final design for the temporary installation of two additional modular classroom units with walkways on the existing parking lot at Stoddert Elementary School, as shown in materials received and dated 28 May 2021. The project also includes the relocation of an existing retaining wall along the southeast edge of the parking lot. Refer to DC Historic Preservation Office.

No objection to issuance of permit for the installation of a standard ClearChannel bus shelter in front of the new Medstar building, per materials received 28 April 2021, PROVIDED there are no advertisements displayed or posted on the shelter.
