No objection to issuance of permit for proposed wall-mounted light fixtures no taller than 22-inches high at either side of entry door as shown in supplemental information dated 4 June 2009. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing landscape illumination which is excessive and out of character to the historic building and the district. No objection to step lights and up-lights to ONLY one tree to either side of stairs behind the garden fence, and to sculpture and path lighting on side yard as shown in red-lined supplemental drawings dated 20 May 2009 PROVIDED no light source is visible. Pole-mounted gas lanterns and additional landscape light fixtures, which were not approved and were deleted from this permit application, must be removed no later than 31 August 2009. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for projecting sign reading 'Vivvy's Nails' mounted on second floor of M St facade as proposed, which is inappropriate to this historic building. There is no objection to the issuance of a permit for a projecting sign mounted on and perpendicular to the Potomac St facade where entrance to business is located. All existing signs on second floor windows were not approved and must be removed no later than 31 August 2009.

Returned without Action. Concept case for alterations to masonry openings and new roof line was withdrawn by written request of applicant.

The Commission regrets that sign was installed and awning was painted prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for sign reading 'Hard Wear' on valance PROVIDED awning is painted black as indicated by applicant. Logo on slope of awning was not approved as has been removed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. All work must be completed no later than 31 August 2009.

The Commission regrets that the sign and light fixtures were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for sign reading 'Salon l'eau' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 19 May 2009 and for existing light fixtures. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that light fixtures were installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing light fixtures on the second floor level to illuminate facade which have an adverse impact on the character of the historic district. Light fixtures must be removed no later than 31 August 2009 and the brick repaired to original condition.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of windows with double hung 2/2 single glazed insulated wood window sashes with 1 1/4-inch true-divided-lite muntin, new sash cords and half-screens, to match neighbor's windows, which are more historically accurate to this house, with half-screens; and for replacement four panel wood door as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 June and 27 May 2009 respectively. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Permit application for replacement windows was withdrawn by written request of applicant dated 16 June 2009. Applicant will repair existing windows.

No objection to general concept design for proposed front portico and one-story rear addition with roof deck. Recommend retention of width of masonry openings for doors and transom window, removal of existing pole mounted gas fixtures and spot lights, and vertical proportions for glass lites. Proposed trellis was not approved. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions and landscape plan, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to concept design for rear parking pad off alley, PROVIDED motorized gate is installed to remain closed at all times, increase in landscaping beds with removal of shed, fence on east side on top of brick knee wall to be painted or stained. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions, cut-sheets and landscape plan, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. This recommendation is applicable to this case only and is not to be construed that future proposals for other parking pads for the alley where it becomes narrower will be approved.

No objection to concept design for proposed widening of driveway to 9 ft wide reusing salvaged existing brick and new brick to match as shown in supplemental drawings dated 26 May 2009. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions, grading and landscape plan, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Parking pad in front of house was not approved and was deleted from application.

No objection to issuance of permit for replacement of windows at second floor with insulated wood double-hung windows as shown in supplemental drawings dated 26 May 2009 which indicate no screens are proposed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Screen for rooftop mechanical equipment over one-story wing was deleted from this permit application by applicant. File new submission of detailed drawings with permit application for screen for review by the Commission when ready.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 20 May 2009 indicate that alterations to rear will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement 7-ft high vertical board fence as shown in supplemental drawings dated 2 June 2009 which indicate that supports will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Fence must be stained or painted. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of window sashes on front facade with single hung 2/2 true-divided-lite with 1 3/8-inch muntin wood window sashes with half screens as shown in supplemental drawings dated 26 June 2009 which indicate wood insert to hide lower track. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign reading 'Georgetown Birdcage' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 4 June 2009 which indicate 16-inch x 68-inch sign panel. Sign to be located above shop window and aligning with clapboard. No other sign to be hung from existing bracket. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed new covered porch addition as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 June 2009 PROVIDED planting bed to west of porch is installed on grade as shown in architectural drawings to reduce amount of impervious surface and match previously approved design. See previous cases OG 08-076 and OG 08-332. Note that gas light fixtures next to the garage door and an electric light fixture above the arched gate were installed without review or permit and are not part of this application. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of roof PROVIDED painted hand-fabricated standing seam tin roof is installed. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed large projecting banner sign with logo for 'Polo' which is not appropriate to this historic building and the historic district.

No objection to issuance of permit for revisions to approved design as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 May 2009 which indicate repair of original niche and new transom window. Request mock up of color selection before whole building is painted.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed two-story rear addition to replace one-story addition. Working drawings conform to previously approved design. See previous Recommendation (OG 09-046). Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed foundation to grade for 1-story rear addition which received general concept approval in separate review under case OG 09-230. The Commission requests property owner to properly maintain historic building, including painting exterior wall facades.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of windows on front facade with aluminum casement windows as shown in Alternate #1 of supplemental drawings dated 26 May 2009 which indicate 4 11/16-inch mullion. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed razing of historic frame construction which has lost structural integrity and for reconstruction as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 June 2009 to match previously approved design for alterations under case OG 08-333. Recommend re-using salvaged original materials where possible. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit. Removal and reconstruction of west brick wall at second floor level, which requires additional information for review, was not approved and was deleted from this permit submission by applicant. File new submission of detailed drawings and specific process for proposed work on brick wall with separate permit application for review by the Commission when ready.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed excavation of basement, foundation and underpinning work, in coordination with new basement addition PROVIDED exposed foundation wall at areaway is faced in brick as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 June 2009 which indicate smaller footprint for areaway and brick stairs.
