No objection to issuance of permit for proposed addition of two shed dormers at rear as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 December 2007 which indicate flat seam copper siding at dormers and 7/8-inch muntins. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed light fixtures as shown in supplemental information received and dated 7 November 2007. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review and approval by The L'Enfant Trust, which holds an easement on this property, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed repair of existing stucco on chimney, repair of trim, replacement of window trim to match existing, and replacement of entry door with solid wood door, as indicated in supplemental information dated 10 December 2007. The replacement of the wood siding with Hardiplank was NOT approved and was deleted from this permit application. The original windows were re-installed on the 37th St facade. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to lower sill of bay window with new glazing to match existing, for sign painted on fascia board reading 'Gore Dean Antiques', and for existing iron security gate in passageway as shown in supplemental drawings dated 27 November 2007. No objection to general concept for proposed alterations to facade including new entrance and storefronts, skylight at center of roof, and window replacements at second floor as shown in supplemental drawings dated 26 November 2007. Recommend use of 2/2 windows. Request information on the placement and character of storefronts behind entrance opening be included in submission of concept development drawings.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed front doors as specified in drawing received and dated 16 November 2007. No objection to issuance of permit for re-covering of awnings and for lettering on valance of awning over entry door reading 'Global Division' and for ONLY one line of lettering on valance of awnings over windows. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign composed of 7 1/2-inch high lettering reading 'Tommy Hilfiger' pin-mounted to new stone panels above entry door. Black Sunbrella fabric awnings without lettering, 1-inch high lettering on storefront glass, and light sconces at either side of entry door were previously approved. See case OG 07-244. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed double sided metal sign with 4-1/8-in. letters reading 'L'Eclat de Verre' and two lights set perpendicular to facade on top of projecting bay as specified in supplemental drawing received and dated 10 December 2007. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations to window openings for French doors at first floor level of porch on rear wing which would be detrimental to the historic fabric and character of this contributing building. Recommend only rear window below second floor door be altered as previously approved under case OG 07-140.

No objection to issuance of permit for revisions to approved design for a new brick garden wall, and for replacement of the double-sided wood fence and gates as shown in supplemental drawings dated 23 November 2007. New motorized gates will match existing, equipment will not be visible. Fence and gates must be painted or stained. Metal poles to support bamboo are not part of this application and must be submitted for review. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations including replacement sign composed of 6 1/2-inch high pin-mounted brass letters reading 'British School of Washington' above entrance doors; and for retaining wall, wooden benches and landscaping as shown in drawings received and dated 28 November 2007. Note: Because the application is pending final zoning review, any subsequent modifications to the approved design must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 20 November 2007 indicate that revised design for two-story rear addition will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed alterations for roof-cut out for deck which is inconsistent with the character of the historic district and this significant contributing historic building. Lack of visibility from public space was not determinable by submitted materials.

The Commission regrets that the alterations to the storefront base were completed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing stone tiles on base of storefront bay window. Recommend tiles be removed and surface beneath be restored to original condition. Restoration work must be completed no later than 31 March 2008.

Returned without Action. Submitted materials and a site visit of 21 November 2007 indicate that proposed replacement sliding gate at bottom of private alley will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

Due to the lack of visibility from a public thoroughfare, there is no objection to concept design for the proposed underground garage as shown in supplemental drawings dated 11 December 2007 which indicate that there will be no change to the building fabric above grade, including no demolition of existing garage, nor partial demolition of garage's north wall, nor alterations to paving, drive, sidewalk, fences, garden walls, or garage door, PROVIDED existing adjacent mature landscape which contributes to the character of this property and the historic district will be retained undamaged. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions, details, and landscape plan, with permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Commission notes that additional concerns beyond the purview of this office will be addressed by the appropriate agency of the District Government.

No objection to issuance to permit for proposed landscape plan including regrading and walkway in front yard, brick garden walls, terraces, pergola, wood screens, and trellis in rear yard. Working drawings conform to approved concept design (See case OG 08-017). Existing iron fence and gate in front yard will remain.
