Union Station

The restoration of Columbus Plaza in front of Union Station by Parsons was completed in 2014, accommodating a complete reconfiguration of the site’s traffic patterns and restoring some of the plaza’s original public space. The plaza in front of the 1909 Imperial Roman Classical station by Daniel Burnham features a monumental fountain and statue of Christopher Columbus by CFA member Lorado Taft. The CFA most recently reviewed the plaza reconstruction project in April 2009. Interior concourse renovations, part of a comprehensive expansion program, are currently underway; a large mixed-use development above the station's rail yard is also under consideration.
