No objection to issuance of permit for a one–story rear addition at the second floor as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 June 2014 which indicate addition is 2 feet lower than the rear wall of building, use of double hung windows, in–fill of window opening on rear wall, and introduction of metal bracket and glass trellis as required by DCRA technical review to meet zoning requirements. Note that banner with lettering reading "Solbiato" mounted to front facade, which was installed prior to review and was not approved, has been removed as previously recommended. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Application has been inactive for an extended period of time.

No objection to the issuance of the permit for replacing wood and metal fence on public space with a new wood and metal fence as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 June 2014, which indicate wood pickets match dimensions and profile of original pickets. Recommend that the pickets be attached to the framing from behind so that screws won't be visible. Although there is no objection to the concept of replacing the historic wood gate on side yard with a replica mahogany wood gate to match dimensions and detailing of existing boards and re–using salvaged hammered metalwork, this item has been deleted from the scope of work on this permit application and will be filed for review separately. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed three–story rear addition and alterations as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 June 2014 provided addition is set back 18 inches from rear masonry wall of ell and the composition of windows on brick wall is revised to increase the amount of masonry on wall. No objection to concept design for alterations to front facade as shown in supplemental drawings which indicate retention of garage door. File new submission at DCRA of construction drawings, including detailed and dimensioned drawings, cut–sheets and landscape plan, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations, which include replacement storefront at reconfigured ATM vestibule as shown in Option 2 of supplemental drawings dated 24 June 2014 which indicate relocation of night drop, removal of light fixture and louvers, replacement wood canopies with copper roofs over rear doors and storefront with continuous mullions on show window and transom. File new submission at DCRA of detailed and dimensioned drawings with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to terraces on side and rear yards, and for 6 feet high replacement wood fences as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 June 2014 PROVIDED new brick and stone pavers are laid on sand and gravel base to make the terraces permeable, instead of using stone dust. Recommend stain on fences be opaque. The circular terrace on rear yard was deleted from the scope of work on this permit application. Note that The Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Georgetown holds an easement on this property. The scope of work does not include any work on front yard or on driveway which was submitted separately (see OG 14-252). Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Concept application was superseded by permit applications OG 14-242 for 1665 34th Street and OG 14-243 for 1667 34th Street.

No objection to concept design for fenestration alterations per supplemental drawings dated 18 June 2014, provided multi–light windows are typical. File new submission at DCRA of detailed and dimensioned drawings with permit application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that mechanical equipment in this service area was installed in 2012 without review. No objection to concept design for new glazed greenhouse with masonry shed, per supplemental drawings dated 18 June 2014, provided brick mechanical screen wall is no taller than 4–feet and does not include piers. Note previously proposed masonry walls around greenhouse were not approved and were deleted from the scope of work. File new submission at DCRA of dimensioned and detailed drawings with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for proposed addition and alterations to garage at rear private alley as shown in Option C of supplemental drawings dated 12 June 2014 which indicate a side addition with a lower ridge line and three separate doors on north elevation. Note that The L'Enfant Trust holds an easement on this property. File new submission at DCRA of construction drawings, including detailed and dimensioned drawings, cut–sheets, and landscape plan for the rear yard, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to Ryan and Mulledy Hall as part of the renovation of the historic buildings, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 16 July 2014 PROVIDED all alterations to roofs including new louvers, access ladders, and vent stacks are located where they will not be visible from the ground plane. All site work, including the ADA ramp over the areaway, the entrance stairs, the re–grading and new landscaped plan for the courtyard are not included in the scope of work under this permit application. File new submission at DCRA of revised concept design for the courtyard and site work for review by the Commission. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Concept application for new construction on vacant lot was withdrawn at the written request of applicant.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to storefront at the Lower Plaza at Washington Harbour, including vestibule, wood folding door system, decorative wood posts with rope lashing, outdoor seating terrace, and orange fabric awnings with lettering reading "The Orange Anchor" on valances as shown in supplemental drawings dated 24 June 2014. File new submission at DCRA of construction drawings, including detailed and dimensioned drawings, cut–sheets and fabric sample, with permit application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that awning above paired window was installed prior to review or permit. Recommend against issuance of permit for proposed awnings over windows and doors with lettering on the valance. Existing awnings obstruct the view of significant architectural detailing on this historic building and are not appropriate to the character of this historic building in particular or the historic district in general. Remove existing awnings, framing and signs for previous tenant no later than 31 August 2014 including repair of any damaged brick. Recommend study of a wall mounted sign above windows or door. File new submission at DCRA of detailed and dimensioned drawings for a flat wall–mounted sign, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed 23 inches x 15 ½ inches pole–mounted sign with lettering reading "Washington Printmakers Gallery" as shown in supplemental drawings dated 10 July 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that the windows in this historic building, one in a row of four with similar window detailing and profiles, were replaced prior to review or permit with insulated windows with simulated divided light muntins which are not compatible with the historic character of this residence and were disapproved (see OG 13-023). No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of the four windows on the front facade and two windows on side elevation with custom made single–glazed, double–hung, 6/6 true divided lite wood windows to replicate detailing, profile and trim of original windows at 3422 Reservoir Road as shown in supplemental drawings dated 18 June 2014. Recommend use of either exterior or interior storm windows, and of half–screens only, if desired. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed installation of operable louvered wood shutters sized to cover the window within the casing when closed, and re–using existing shutter dogs, where possible. Complete corrective work no later than 30 November 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action per written request of applicant. Property owner/agent is requested to file new submission at DCRA by 14 August 2014 with complete detailed and dimensioned site plan, plans, elevations, and detail drawings with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for new elongated windows at front, areaway at side, and new doors and shed dormer at rear, per drawings dated 17 June 2014, provided areaway at front is eliminated and condenser/trash enclosure is relocated from public space to rear yard. File new submission at DCRA of detailed and dimensioned drawings with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to storefront as shown on drawings dated 13 June 2014. Light fixture hidden in box cornice will be removed as part of the scope of work. See OG 14-198 for new sign. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Returned without Action. Submission materials and a site visit on 17 June 2014 indicate that proposed alterations to entrance at the Pasquerilla Healthcare Center will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed foundation and utility work below grade up to the new contour lines as shown in supplemental drawings dated 8 July 2014. Work is in coordination with the proposed Northeast Hall dormitory approved in concept, see OG 14-170. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for 18–inch tall back–lit "1025" sign attached to wall, provided no conduit or junction boxes are exposed and two existing sconces are removed with brick patched to match existing. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for pilot program for 19"–wide digital screens for bus information, only. File new submission at DCRA of detailed and dimensioned drawings for screens and attachment mechanism with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to storefront, including replacement metal stairs, repair of all wood trim and cornice, replacement awning above door, steel door, landscaped area in front of bay, and brick–in of basement window as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 June 2014 provided that replacement glazing on storefront bay has single–glazed true divided lite wood muntins and that light fixture by entry door is no taller than 18 inches. Use of a single lite window on storefront was not approved. File new submission at DCRA of construction drawings, including detailed and dimensioned drawings, landscape plan, cut–sheets and fabric sample, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for pedestrian gate at end of public alley and extension of brick garden wall as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 June 2014 which indicate design of wall and piers will match approved design. See OG 14-116. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations for new window well on side yard as shown in supplemental drawings dated 8 July 2014. Approval is conditional on the removal of all exposed conduits, cables, gas lines and other appurtenances on side wall and relocation within premises as indicated in the supplemental drawings. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement and repair of brick driveway as shown in supplemental drawings dated 8 July 2014 which indicate re–use of salvaged brick and new brick to match existing. No objection to proposed repair work on stone stairs. Proposed extension for new retaining wall was not approved and was deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to front stairs for new limestone treads and running bond brick risers. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit to raise height of east, south, and west walls, with stepped parapets for new copper roof, multi–light wood windows and doors per drawing dated 24 June 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of metal roof with tern metal roof with hand–pressed 1 inch high standing seams as shown in supplemental drawings dated 26 June and 2 July 2014 which indicate detailing of new roof installation will match traditional historic detailing, dimensions, spacing and profile of existing roof. Built–in gutter on front facade to be retained and repaired. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for reconstructed storefronts and new wood 2/2 windows with operable shutters at front and three–story rear addition per drawings dated 13 June 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend against issuance of permit for proposed internally illuminated projecting sign box. An internally–illuminated sign, in which the face of the sign glows, is not compatible with the character of the historic district in general, or with this Federal house, which is a designated DC Landmark historic building. A projecting sign box is not typical of the historic district and not appropriate to this contributing building.

No objection to issuance of permit for bronze fenestration at new addition, wood fenestration at historic buildings, and new 7–foot–tall brick wall along southern property line per drawings dated 19 June 2014. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the approved design, including those made during DCRA technical review, must be re–submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.
