The Commission regrets that sign scheme, including awning and lettering, was installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme composed of lettering no taller than 12 inches high reading 'Charm' and a second line of lettering no taller than 4 inches high reading 'Georgetown' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 5 July 2012 PROVIDED no logos are mounted to facade. Proposed logos were not approved and were crossed out from drawings. No objection to retention of existing sign mounted to railing of entry stairs. Recommend AGAINST blade sign as proposed in options on supplemental drawings dated 21 June 2012. Existing awning, which covers architectural features of the facade, is not appropriate to the historic character of the building, was not approved and must be removed no later than 31 October 2012.

Returned without Action. Concept review was superseded by permit application under case OG 12-296.

No objection to issuance of permit for enlarged front entrance, new chimney fans, and garage alterations per supplemental drawings dated 20 June 2012.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed brick retaining wall and metal fence to match existing along property line and for work on public space, including new planter and widening of sidewalk to match width of existing sidewalk in front of building as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 June 2012. Recommend planting a large specimen tree in new planter as part of the scope of this project to replace tree that was removed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during review by DCRA technical review, or during review of work on public space by the DDOT Public Space Management Branch or the Office of Planning Public Space Committee must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for re-roofing projecting bay with flat-seam copper, new gutters and downspouts, and operable wood shutters as indicated in drawings dated 21 June 2012. Refer repointing work to DCHPO.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to storefront and sign scheme for 'Massimo Dutti' including expanded vestibule, back-lit sign on masonry panel and logos on side panels, as shown in supplemental drawings dated 16 July 2012 which indicate retention of transoms. Proposed metal gate, dropped ceiling, mirror effect vinyl on second floor windows, awnings and additional signs were not approved and were deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations to storefront for 'Farmers, Fishers and Bakers' as shown in supplemental drawings dated 17 July 2012 which indicate translucent glass at overhead door. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that the rooftop mechanical equipment and exposed ductwork were installed prior to review or permit. No objection to concept design for proposed mechanical equipment composed of interior units with exterior components located on rear yard and on balcony where they will not be visible from public thoroughfare as shown in Alternate B of supplemental drawings dated 21 June 2012. File new submission of detailed information and product literature for new mechanical system with permit application for review by the Commission. Existing rooftop equipment and exposed ductwork were not approved and must be removed no later than 31 October 2012.

No objection to issuance of permit for stair, retaining wall, and fence per supplemental drawings dated 21 June 2012 provided gas light fixtures at entrance stair are replaced by electric fixtures. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for new two-car garage per supplemental drawings dated __ July 2012 provided all noted precautions are undertaken before and during construction to prevent damage to the adjacent northern road oak tree and its roots. Drawings indicate that doors on north elevation have been removed. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to raising portion of south wall and roof at ell per supplemental drawings dated 22 June 2012. Recommend reduction of distance between windows heads at second story and eave. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions, details, and cut sheets, with permit application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that sign was installed prior to review or permit. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for existing sign which is not appropriate to the historic character of the building. Sign must be removed no later than 31 October 2012. File a separate submission with a revised design for an appropriate sign with one line of text with lettering no taller than 12 inches with permit application for review by the Commission no later than the 13 September 2012 deadline.

No objection to issuance of permit for new painted wood 4-panel door per supplemental drawing dated 13 July 2012.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement of rear fence along property line with a 6-ft tall board on board wood fence to match fence on west property line as shown in supplemental drawings dated 21 June 2012. Fence must be painted or stained. File separate submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings for work on the front yard with permit application for review by the Commission. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed replacement single-light wood doors at first and second floors of rear elevation per specifications submitted 20 June 2012.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for paving of front of side yard as proposed. Recommend running bond pattern of brick follow direction of brick on edge on driveway and installation of solid wood gate to screen parked vehicles. File new submission of detailed drawings with dimensions with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme composed of fabric awning on center bay of storefront and above show window on south facade, both with lettering on valance ONLY; and lettering no taller than 12 inches high reading 'Dry Bar' mounted to brick wall above storefront as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 June 2012 PROVIDED only two light fixtures are used to illuminate sign and the trademark sign is deleted. Submit shop drawings for sign and awning for review and confirmation prior to installation of signs.

The Commission regrets that shutters, retaining walls, raised window wells, lights, and a roof vent were added to this residence without review or approval. Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for hanging shutters, retaining walls, raised window wells, one new light fixture located to the south of front door, and metal flue near southern edge of main roof. All elements must be removed in their entirety by 30 September 2012.

No objection to issuance of permit for temporary wood stair and repair of existing cast iron stair including new caps on the newel posts and internal stringers.

The Commission regrets that the wood fence was installed prior to review or permit. No objection to issuance of permit for existing wood fence and gate composed of horizontal boards PROVIDED fence and gate are painted or stained. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed alterations, including new entry door, removal of awning and framing, and replacement clear glazing on storefronts; and for sign scheme for 'Intermix' composed of shed awnings on show windows on 33rd St., 12 inch high pin-mounted non-illuminated lettering mounted to wall above entrance, and lettering on new sign panel on show window facing M St and on storefronts on 33rd St. PROVIDED pin-mounted sign is attached through the mortar joints and sign above show window at corner is deleted from this permit application. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed new 4-story residential building with underground garage, penthouse and pool per drawings dated 18 July 2012, provided horizontal detail is added to metal panels at south elevation and lights are removed from north elevation. Erect material sample panels, on site for review by the Commission when ready. File new submissions for signs for street level retail with separate permit application for review by the Commission when ready. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for storefront and door alterations per supplemental drawings dated 13 July 2012. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

The Commission regrets that replacement of storefront windows and doors at office building were initiated and waterproofing and brick work completed prior to review or permit. Supplemental drawings dated 19 July 2012 indicate scope of the proposed work is limited to replacement of storefront windows and doors facing the courtyard at the lower plaza ONLY. No waterproofing or brick work is proposed as part of this permit application. Submitted materials and a site visit of 17 July 2012 indicate that proposed work at courtyard will not be visible from public thoroughfare. Refer to the Historic Preservation Review Board. Proposed replacement of storefront windows and doors on Canal side were not approved and were deleted from this permit application. Recommend retention of existing storefront windows with butt-joints. File new submission of detailed and dimensioned drawings for the replacement of the windows and doors with permit application for review by the Commission. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for confirmation of visibility prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed repair work in coordination with waterproofing work as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 July 2012 which reduce the scope of the proposed work. Existing brick must be salvaged and re-used on exterior face of building and on plaza. Mortar must match existing original mortar. Submit sample of mortar and replacement brick for review by the Commission. Proposed alterations to existing balcony railings were not approved and were deleted from this permit application. Recommend retention and repair of existing balcony railings. Recommend retention of existing landscape plan with birch trees in planters. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design, including handrail details, made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed new dormer at rear as shown in supplemental drawings dated 25 June 2012 which indicate roof of shed dormer starts below ridge of existing roof and 6/6 window configuration. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for aluminum pin mounted back-lit channel letters no taller than 12", reading 'John Fluevog Shoes' with no registered trademark symbol per supplemental drawing dated 11 July 2012.

No objection to concept design for proposed four-story residential building as shown in supplemental drawings dated 5 July 2012. Recommend stone base be raised to meet sill of entry door on Grace Street. File new submission of working drawings, including details, dimensions, lighting plan for parking area and material samples, with permit application for review by the Commission.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed rear addition and alterations as shown in supplemental drawings dated 20 July 2012 which indicate a consistent height for rear addition. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for installing new wood siding, trim, and shutters to match exact profile and details of those at 2908 Dumbarton Street per drawings submitted 26 June 2012. No objection to issuance of permit for one-story auxiliary building with sloped metal roof per drawings dated 15 June 2012. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to issuance of permit for new chimney and copper gutters and downspout per drawings dated 10 July 2012. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for proposed alterations to rear addition, including slope of roofs and projecting railing as shown in supplemental materials received 5 July 2012 which indicate use of hardi-siding on east and west facades and for Azek trim on rear facade. File new submission of working drawings, including elevations, plans, details and dimensions, with permit application for review by the Commission.

The Commission regrets that a roof was erected over rear sunken terrace without review or approval. No objection to issuance of permit for flat deck with flagstone surface and flush skylights per supplemental drawings dated 10 July 2012. Trim at rear windows must be 5/4" wood and wood siding. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

No objection to concept design for alterations to concrete driveway and apron on public space for new brick pavers in a herringbone pattern laid on edge in a sand setting bed as shown in supplemental drawings dated 22 June 2012. Recommend that width of driveway be limited to opening between piers to increase area of tree bed. Recommend that arborist be involved during development of the project and its construction to protect street tree from damage. File new submission of working drawings, including dimensions, details and report from arborist, with permit application for review by the Commission. Refer to the DC Department of Transportation Public Space Management Branch and the Office of Planning Public Space Committee.

No objection to issuance of permit for storefront alterations, new windows at canal, and cooling tower per supplemental drawings dated 15 June and 16 July 2012. Note: Any subsequent modifications to the exterior design made during DCRA technical review must be re-submitted to the Commission for approval prior to issuance of permit.

Recommend AGAINST issuance of permit for proposed addition of garden structure that would obstruct the side yard and block views from public space toward the interior of the block contrary to the Commission's Policy on Additions and Site Alterations to Structures. Recommend relocation of wood gates to forward face of wall of main house to screen parked vehicles from view from public thoroughfare.

No objection to issuance of permit for proposed sign scheme for Dumbarton House that includes a projecting sign on brick pier at main entrance stairs and two signs mounted to the fence at the corner entrance to the garden with graphics as shown in options on drawings dated 15 June 2012.
